This pizza was inspired by my Jalapeno Popper Pizza HERE. This Hawaiian Pizza recipe uses a frozen cheese pizza topped with Canadian bacon, crispy bacon bits, pineapple chunks, seasonings, and fresh mozzarella! Take it to the next level by baking the pizza on a pizza stone, in an air fryer, or on the grill! Any take and bake or frozen cheese or pepperoni pizza from the grocery store will do.

Pantry Ready Meal

You can easily keep these ingredients on hand for a quick dinner and save money on take out! Make sure to check all your labels for recommended storage and expiration dates. I’ve also shared freezing information below, if you would like to freeze the leftover toppings.

TIP: I highly recommend Costco’s Kirkland brand frozen cheese pizzas. You get a box of four cheese pizzas for about 12 dollars and the quality of the crust and cheese is very good for the price! You could also use a frozen Pepperonni pizza and simply remove the pepperonni or leave it on for extra spice.

HOW TO MAKE PINEAPPLE PIZZA!

Preheat oven to the temperature recommended on the pizza packaging.

Drain the pineapple chunks (canned or fresh). While the pineapple is draining, cut the fresh mozzarella cheese into 1/2 inch cubes. If the cheese has excess moisture, pat dry.

Cut the Canadian bacon slices into fourths. No need to fry the Canadian bacon. Lay the fourths on top of the pizza, spread out evenly. Then sprinkle on the fresh mozzerella cheese followed by a lite sprinkling of onion powder, garlic powder, and salt & pepper. Optional add-ins would be red pepper flakes and/or chopped red onion.

Finish with the juicy pineapple chunks and bacon bits! Bake in a hot oven as directed by the pizza packaging or until the crust is golden brown. Be careful not to add extra pineapple or fresh mozzarella cheese as these ingredients contain moisture and can make you pizza too soggy.

I usually bake my pizza on a pizza stone. The stone adds extra flavor to the Pizza and gives the crust a chewy yet slightly crispy texture!

For extra crunch, I sometimes place the pizza directly on the oven rack. You could put a cookie sheet or a sheet of aluminum foil on the oven tray under your pizza to catch any pizza crumbs or drips. Also, I plan to try cooking a frozen pizza on the grill soon! Recipe link HERE! You could also consider baking the pizza in an air fryer or toaster oven!

Let the pizza cool for about 5 minutes then slice and serve! You could also turn this pizza into a fun appetizer by cutting it into little squares for sharing!

This pizza tastes best fresh! You can store leftovers in the fridge for 2 or 3 days, in an air-tight container. Re-heat in the oven or microwave.

How to Freeze Toppings for Hawaiian Pizza

  • Freeze canadian bacon and/or bacon bits in a zip lock bag for up to 3 months.
  • Store bought shredded mozzarella can be frozen in its bag, tightly sealed, up to 6 months
  • Fresh mozzerella can be frozen for up to 2 months. TIP: fresh mozzarella is a softer cheese which contains more moisture, it may not freeze as well as hard cheese but it will do okay. Pat dry and wrap the cheese in aluminum foil or plastic wrap and store in a freezer bag. Push out as much air as you can without smashing the cheese.
  • I would not freeze pineapple for anything but smoothies. Frozen pineapple, when thawed, can lose its juicy bite and acquire a chewy texture. Keep a few small cans of pineapple chunks on hand for the pizza. I use canned pineapple chunks but you could easily use fresh pineapple also… just make sure to drain the pineapple either way so you don’t end up with a soggy pizza!
  • Frozen pizzas can last for close to a year in the freezer but it is recommended to use them within 6 months as they will lose flavor as time goes on. Always check the expiration dates on the packaging.

You don’t have to thaw or defrost frozen pizza toppings completly. Defrost just enough so you can seperate and/or cut and sprinkle the ingredients on the pizza. You can put a bag of frozen toppings in a bowl of warm water. Or you can defrost the toppings in the microwave in a microwave safe container or in a ziplock bag that is vented with small holes.

What can I freeze pizza toppings in?

You can freeze the ingredients individually in small freezer safe containers OR in snack size ziplock bags. Freeze in serving sizes that accommodate one pizza. When freezing multiple items it can be helpful to label with expiration dates with permenant marker or sticker.

I have also thought about trying to lay the toppings (except for the pineapple) on top of an opened frozen pizza and tightly re-sealing it myself with plastic wrap. Let me know if you try it! I worry the toppings will shift too much.

ADAPTATIONS FOR HAWAIIAN PIZZA

  • Use frozen pizza OR take and bake pizza
  • Cheese OR Pepperoni pizza will work (leave the pepperoni’s on for extra spice or simply remove)
  • Leave half of the pizza plain for pickey eaters
  • Use fresh or canned pineapple
  • BACON BITS: Homemade (simply cook, drain, then crumble bacon strips) OR store bought (buy the soft bacon bits, not crunchy) OR omit bacon bits altogether
  • Add pre-shredded mozzarella instead of fresh mozzerella
  • Optional add-ins could be chopped red onion, chopped jalapeno, and/or red pepper flakes
  • Use ham chopped into small cubes instead of Canadian bacon slices (some people prefer SPAM instead of ham/bacon on their Hawaiian Pizza)
  • Ways to Cook Frozen Pizza – bake directly on the oven rack for crispy crust, bake on pizza stone or pizza pan, OR bake on provided cardboard for softer crust. Consider baking your frozen pizza in an air fryer, toaster oven, or on the grill!
  • Cut into small squares and serve as an appetizer!

In my opinion, these are some of the best pizza toppings right here! hope you try this delicious pizza! A traditional Hawaiian pizza … simplified!
