This homemade healthy for you granola is an easy granola recipe to make! Made with only 6 nutritious ingredients….which you may already have laying around in your kitchen cupbard….. oatmeal, butter, salt, vanilla, honey, and cinnamon. You will combine in the honey for sweetness with no added amount of sugar! Extra flavors such as nutmeg, nuts, coconut flakes, sunflower seeds, and dried fruit are great add-ins.

This homemade granola is so tasty I usually make a double batch. Oats are considered whole grains and the benefits with whole grains can include….. the promotion of good gut bacteria, improved cholesterol, and improved blood sugar levels. Let’s not forget the added vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants oats can give us as well!

This is the good stuff, much better than store-bought granola! I love this granola as cereal, for snacking or as added texture in a yogurt parfait. It would make for a nice gift, packaged in a mason jar with ribbon or fabric on top!

If made as directed, the granola will crumble into small to medium clumps. Or I can show you how to make clumpy granola, as explained below, that will be much easier to eat on the go!

How DO You Make Healthy for YOU Granola?

This homemade and healthy for YOU granola (made with honey) consist of only a few simple ingredients. You can keep it simple or add extra flavors as mentioned. Wet ingredients include butter, vanilla extract, and honey.

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl combine the oats with all other ingredients until well combined… and all oats are coated with the honey and butter. Your home will smell like cinnamon and honey, promise!

Dump the oat mixture from the large bowl onto the cookie sheet. Spread the granola into an even layer. Bake for 10 minutes and stir than bake for the remaining 10 minutes or until the granola is golden brown.

Let the granola cool on the baking sheet. Then store in an air tight container, at room temperature, for up to 2 weeks. You can also store in a gallon freezer bag and freeze it for up to 3 months.

How to Make Clumpy Granola … with Healthy for YOU Granola

For big granola chunks, add an extra 2 tablespoons of honey and an extra 2 tablespoons of melted butter. After the first 10 minutes of baking, and the granola has been stirred… press down the granola evenly with a greased spatula or your hand (you can use a square of parchment paper if using your hand to prevent the granola from sticking to you). Then bake the granola for the additional 10 minutes…. allow it to cool COMPLETLY on the pan and DO NOT touch or break it apart until it is no longer warm to the touch.

Another trick that I came across, is to grind a cup or two of the granola in a food processor so that it is in powder form. Then prepare and bake as usual. It is supposed to help the granola adhere to itself better. If anyone has tried this let me know. I don’t like adding in the extra step by getting out my food processor and I have found my method works well if your patient with the cooling process.
